The Power of Not Knowing

Certainty is so comforting, isn’t it? We like to know that we are doing the right thing that will lead us to the outcome we want.

If we let it, becoming a parent can be one long lesson in letting go of certainty and finding hidden treasures. We don’t know what they are or where they are until we stumble upon them, but the reward is worth the risk.

In the face of uncertainty, we start to question ourselves, our decisions, and our capabilities. But as we navigate through it, we begin to realize that there is no perfect way to be a mother. Each journey is unique, filled with its own set of challenges and triumphs. This realization can lead to a newfound sense of self-acceptance and confidence.

This inner clarity is not about having all the answers, but about understanding ourselves and our emotions better. It’s about acknowledging our strengths and accepting our weaknesses. It’s about understanding that it’s okay to ask for help and it’s okay to make mistakes.

Whether it’s a birth plan, a potty training plan, or a career plan, life has a way of shaking things up, and our children constantly challenge us with the unexpected. How do you know when to stick with it and when to adapt? Do you follow expert advice, buy all the solutions, go against the tide? What about when all the advice points you in different directions?

As we are exposed to a seemingly infinite variety of choices, lifestyles, options, and advice, trying to sort out what we should do can feel like an impossible task. Reflecting on our values and observations in the moment can help us to discover that next right step. We can acknowledge that other people have other priorities, allowing us to let go of advice that doesn’t fit our situation.

It takes trust to step away towards and unknown destination. Even if you feel like you are the only one, remember that you are not alone. You will make mistakes, that’s part of the journey, and it doesn’t mean you are on the wrong path. Every step brings you closer to where you are meant to be.
