Nesting Parties

The Latest Baby-Prep Trend for Moms-to-Be and Their Besties!

Have you heard of nesting parties? If you’re looking for a way to show support for new parents, consider hosting a nesting party instead of a traditional baby shower. This unique event focuses on acts of service rather than gifts, with guests helping the expectant parents with tasks like cooking, cleaning, and organizing while having a blast and making memories you’ll always treasure!

The goal of a nesting party is to rally the community around pregnant moms and their families, so they can focus on the big job of raising a brand new human without being as overwhelmed by all the changes that come with it. Here are a few ways you can show some love to the expectant parents in your life by throwing them a nesting party:

Talk to your friends. If you know someone who is preparing for a new baby, ask them if they would like to receive a nesting party. If you are an expectant parent and love this idea, ask your friends to organize one for you! The more people who talk about nesting parties, the more new parents will benefit. (If you feel awkward asking someone to throw you a party, check out the sample text messages in my Nesting Party Guide.)

Gather the community. A nesting party can bring together family members, friends, neighbors, church or social group members, whoever is willing to lend a hand. Most people who have had kids of their own know how much help is needed, and you may be surprised to find who in your life is happy to be there for you!

Honor the parents’ preferences. Even the best intentions can fall flat if the people you are supporting don’t feel heard. Whether it’s the food, the activities, or the guest list, if you’re not sure about something, ask! In a nesting party, the parents-to-be provide a list of things they want to get done in order to prepare for the baby, and then offer guidance to the people completing the tasks to ensure they are done as they like. This is about helping out and taking some of the responsibilities off their plate, not a time to insist on doing things your way.

Want more? The Nesting Party Guide is a resource that helps bring together everyone involved with suggestions, examples, and places to record expectant parents’ specific requests. The process of planning and communication is streamlined to make sure your event is relaxed and enjoyable for all involved. This ebook planner is available for only $27 here.
